What we do

The Greater Sydney Commission is leading metropolitan planning to make Greater Sydney more productive, sustainable and liveable.

Greater Sydney is growing fast. The region will be home to about 1.6 million more people over the next 20 years.

While there are challenges with growth, there are also lots of opportunities for individuals and communities.

This is not business as usual. The Greater Sydney Commission is bringing together the community, interest groups, business, government and councils to shape ideas for the future for Greater Sydney.

The Commission has been established by a new Act of Parliament with specific roles and responsibilities for planning for Greater Sydney. We have a direct reporting line to the NSW Government.

The Commission agreed with the Minister for Planning a Statement of Priorities for the Commission’s inaugural period from January 2016 to October 2018. The priorities outlined are based on the Commission's statutory responsibilities under the Greater Sydney Commission Act 2015.
