Peak Body Roundtables

In 2016 the Greater Sydney Commission invited representatives of peak organisations in the social and environmental fields to form two independent advisory panels. Panel members were asked to advise the Commission on high level strategic directions related to preparing six draft District Plans.

The Social Panel was co-convened by Social Commissioner, Heather Nesbitt, and CEO for the National Council for Social Service, Tracey Howe. The Environment Panel was co-convened by Environment Commissioner Rod Simpson and CEO of the Total Environment Centre, Jeff Angel.

Both Panels prepared advisory papers which gave advice to the Commission on high level strategic environmental and social priorities. Both the Environment Advisory Paper (PDF 6.44 MB) and Social Advisory Paper (PDF 3.44 MB) were finalised in November 2016. The Papers were used by the Commission as input to the draft District Plans released for consultation in November 2016.

During the second exhibition period (October to December 2017) peak groups participated in roundtables to look at how the advisory papers were considered as part of submissions received during the first exhibition process, and what had changed between Towards our Greater 2056 and A Metropolis of Three Cities.

The Commission holds ongoing roundtable meetings with peak social and environmental groups to discuss key social and environmental planning priorities as the Plans are put into action. The range of groups we meet with is listed below.
