City Plans

In 2018, five District Plans were created for the cities that make up the Metropolis of Three Cities.
These are the current City Plans for Greater Sydney.

Also in place in the Six Cities Region are the current regional plans for the Hunter, Central Coast, and Illawarra Shoalhaven developed by the Department of Planning and Environment.

We’re currently working towards the next set of City Plans for the Six Cities Region.

For the Western Parkland City, Central River City and Eastern Harbour City, they will incorporate and build on the Local Strategic Planning Statements and other work done by local government.

Development of Lower Hunter and Greater Newcastle City, Central Coast and Illawarra-Shoalhaven Plans will build on the regional plans already in place. These will also incorporate and build on the Local Strategic Planning Statements and other work done by local government.

Current Regional Plans

Regional Plans developed by the Department of Planning and Environment will apply as City Plans until new City Plans are released in 2024.

Six Cities Region

The Six Cities Region is Australia’s first global-city region. It is a network of connected cities in Australia that lift each other up, while celebrating and leveraging each city’s unique character and strengths.

The Six Cities Region comprises the Lower Hunter and Greater Newcastle City, Central Coast City, Illawarra-Shoalhaven City, Western Parkland City, Central River City and Eastern Harbour City. It is based on local government boundaries and feedback from local stakeholders.
