Committee for Sydney CEO, Dr Tim Williams, said Lucy was instrumental in the Committee’s growth and intellectual renewal during that period.
“As Chair of the Committee for Sydney, Lucy Turnbull was at the forefront of shaping a vision for a bigger but better functioning Sydney.
“This vision demonstrated the ambitions of a truly global city, whilst maintaining the quintessential aspects of what makes Sydney a special place to live: diverse and inclusive communities; opportunities for all its residents and a natural environment that is the envy of the world,” Dr Williams said.
“As Chief Commissioner of the Greater Sydney Commission, Lucy is now putting that vision into reality.
“The recent publication of the Commission’s Regional Plans is a landmark moment for Greater Sydney. The Plans represent a thorough and detailed blueprint for integrated land and transport use, something that previous generations have failed to do for the broader city. They are testament to Lucy’s leadership and excellent team at the GSC,” he said.
“Lucy has helped the Committee for Sydney to shape ideas and visons from the abstract to reality. To turn the city from great to even greater and to turn the impossible into the possible,” Dr Williams said.
Ms Turnbull thanks the Committee for Sydney for the honour, saying her work with the Committee laid the foundations for a number of key policies she was championing through the Greater Sydney Commission.
“The concepts of female friendly cities, a focus on urban amenity in response to increased density, and my passion for the future of Greater Parramatta grew from my time at the Committee.
“I look forward to the Commission and the Committee for Sydney continuing to work collaboratively on our city’s future,” she said.
